big pet fish for sale
Why is my Betta making bubbles when he’s by himself?

I currently have a single male Betta. For the first week I had him, he sat unhappily in one of those small, crappy Betta Keepers that they sale at the pet store. After that first week of feeling sorry for him I found a 1.5 gallon fish bowl. He definatly seems more happier, however, since I put him in it he has slowly started forming bubbles at the top of the water. Every morning I wake up, and the area of bubbles is bigger than it was the night before.
I’ve read that they will make bubble pouches to keep eggs in, but I don’t have any other fish.
Is there any explaination for this? Is it just something they do? Even without the potential for eggs being layed?

Male bettas make bubble nests even when there are no females present, They do this in case a female does happen along. Instinct makes them want to build the bubble nests to impress the females and even without girls around they are driven to make the biggest nest they can.
There’s no need to worry about it, He’ll just build a new one if you remove it. It will eventually go away or he’ll just maintain it where it’s at.
