What sort of fish can I keep in my new tank?
I’ve just recently bought a new Aquastart 500 aquarium fish tank. Im not too sure on what sort of fish to keep in it though.
I am brand new to fish keeping & orginally was thinking of starting out with fantails (goldfish). Until I saw my uncle’s Tropical tank! He currently has baby Electric Yellow Cichlids, & asked me if I wanted to keep a few of those rather then having fantails!
The problem is upon doing some research on these electic yellows, I am starting to wonder if my tank will be big enough to house them? My tank holds 65L & has a size of 50cm Width x 49cm Height x 34cm Diameter.

Am I able to keep these baby cichlids!? And If not, then what sort of fish would you reccomend for me to keep?
I plan on seeking advise from a pet store aswell but would love some feedback from anybody that is a fish keeper.
You’d probably be fine keeping a couple electric yellows in a tank this size. These are a less aggressive cichlid so you’d need to chose tank mates carefully. Also, they’re pretty easy to breed so you might want to wait until your uncle’s fish are old enough to sex before you get them – and take care to get all males or all females. If you wind up with a pair you’ll likely have the same baby problems as your uncle.
I would not recommend goldfish for a tank this size. You could probably squeak by with one fantail but nothing more. You have several other options. I’d just visit the fish store and look for something you like, write it down and research it when you get home.
