No Pets Clause Ontario
I signed a paper saying I wouldn’t get a pet?
I live in ontario and the landlord tenant act says that any clause in a lease that says no pets allowed is void. My landlord made me sign a paper that said I agreed to not have any pets. Now do to a recent sleep issue I really want to get a cat. I know that in general I can not be kicked out because of a pet, I just don’t know if signing that form means they can kick me out if I get a cat. One of my neighbours in my building has a cat and the landlords allow that. Does anyone know the law regarding this? Did signing that paper override the law?
You signing that paper is a binding agreement with the landlord that you won’t get a pet. If you want a cat – MOVE to a place that allows them.
Don’t get a cat and think the landlord won’t find out. That’s just irresponsible and stupid. The landlord WILL find out because cats love to sit on windowsills. They also tend to be allowed to enter your place without your permission.
It would also be very selfish of you to get a cat. The cat would get used to you and if you had to get rid of it later then it’s left having to find a new owner and wondering why you gave it up.
