Pet Behavior Help

Becoming a pet behavior specialist?

I’m looking to become a specialist in animal behavior so I can perhaps work at a Humane Society as someone who assesses animal behavior for adoptability, and to work with special needs animals who may need work before being adopted to a home.

Does anyone know if there is special certification I need that can be picked up at a college, or if this would be more of an apprenticeship thing?

I already have experience working in pet care (on a more veterinary assistant level), and I’ve worked as a pet adviser (Giving people advice on what kind of pet is for them and helping them find the right one).

But I’d like to make my career assessing pets for adoptability and working with ones who need a little more care before being adopted so I can do something that makes a real difference in a pet’s life.

Hi there… to become an animal behaviourist requires a minimum of a bachelors degree in animal psychology/ethology. Most careers in animal behavior require advanced degrees, sometimes a Masters, but usually a Doctorate (Ph.D.) or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.).
