Pet For Adoption
Average pet adoption fee?
Can anyone tell me what the average pet adoption fees are in the U.S. for a dog and cat? Any other information about the subject might be helpful too.
I appreciate the enthusiasm in all of your answers, but I’m not considering adoption; I’m writing a paper on the subject of adoption vs. purchase.
However, my family has adopted all of our pets, whether from shelters or from people.
Thanks for your help. You rarely disappoint me, Y!A Community.
Well, I can’t say what the average is but when I adopted my pooch I paid $85.00. Puppies are $95.00. Kittens are $75.00 and cats are $65.00. These are just at my local shelter. Some shelters charge specifically for breed. Like a pure breed will cost more than a cross breed. Usually anyway. My friend payed $250.00 for a pure American Eskimo. And kudos to you for adopting!
Added: I disagree with the answer above me. I bought mine from a shelter and they did not chrage for any of that. He already had them. A shelter has to charge so they can pay rent, utilities, and vet fees. I do however agree with staying away from a breeder. Just keep searching on petfinder.com and you will find the perfect pet for you. I looked for over a year till I found my dog.
