Moving To NYC! Any Advice?

Im moving to NYC, im 21 years old, straight out of college and looking for a job in journalism. Preferably, fashion. Anyone have any advice about how i can get started in the business?

Also, im looking for a 1-bedroom/studio apartment under 1500 a month where i can have pets, any advice?
And anyone who has relocated to NYC, do you have any advice? :] haha

Thanks!!

Hi, there are some good job listings on MediaBistro, Craigslist, and my favorite, www.journalismnow.com

Keep applying to lots of jobs; be very creative with your cover letters, and be persistent with reaching the right the person at the company. Sometimes it is better to work around HR and write to the person who is looking to hire someone for their team.

It is also useful to have business cards made up for yourself, and use your social time to network and pass around your cards where appropriate. Don’t be afraid to tell people you are looking for work. Some of them will have the connections you are looking for.

I think you will easily be able to find a studio apartment for 1500. Rents have been coming down quite a bit since the recession hit. The best place to find an apartment is Craigslist.

Best of luck to you!
