Getting a bobcat as a pet?
Anyone owned one before? I love cats and one of my cats now is half bobcat. You can see it in the ears and just looking at him. He was 26lbs last time he was at the vets office. He is not over feed he is just a huge cat lol. My other cat is a domestic she weights about 10lbs less and they are always together. Bobcats can weight up to 35lbs so it is not really that far of a jump for me. I checked and it is legal in my state to own one as a pet. Don’t need a special license or anything. I have a big place so space is not really an issue. Plus from what I read of their behaviors its the same as Fatty does now (he was always bigger then other cats so I named him Fatty lmao). I mean everything I read was identical to how he is all the time. Anyone out there ever owned a full blooded bobcat?
Bobcats are native to many states, so you will need a permit from your fish and game or whoever handles native wildlife in your state.
Bobcat hybrids are extremely rare, so it is unlikely you have one. There are some domestic breeds that resemble bobcats though. One is the pixie bob.
Bobcats and other small exotic cats do not always use the litter box all the time. You might get lucky and get one that does, but chances are that it might not. You must be willing to accept this.
You will need a special vet that knows how to treat a bobcat. They get vaccinated for the same things as domestics, but they must always get KILLED virus vaccines.
You will need either a raw diet or special commercial small exotic cat food.
You will also need to take extra measures to make sure there are no small objects laying around for it to get and that doors and windows are secured. Anything breakable must be kept in a room the bobcat does not have access to.
Bobcats bond strongly to their owners and do not handle being rehomed well. If you get a bobcat, you must be willing to care for it the rest of its life.
