Dog Grooming?

I am interested in working with animals as a career. I really seem to like the Dog Grooming “industry”. I’ve heard its extremely physically demanding (and I should know I groom, if you’d call it that, my own dog- a 115lbs bouvier). I also have heard it can be extremely hardwork, but i think I’m up to the challenge. Do you have any advice for me as a high school student on where i should get a job, reccomended schools and any other information you could provide. Also, if you can inform me about what i should do if i pursue this career and possibly start a grooming business with other services such as dog walking and pet supply? (I’m willing to get certified as a dog walker as well). There is a shelter close by that I can volunteer at, that also offers pre-training courses for dog walking and registering CGC & therapy dogs if that matters. I appreciate any answers or other suggestions for occupations. Thanks
:)

I went to dog grooming school years ago. If I remember correctly it was an 18 month program. We had opportunities to work on dogs that people brought in knowing that we were students. I thought I would like dog grooming since I wanted to be a vet and like dogs. Well i did finish school and worked at a grooming store for a summer and then tried to start my own business. I would do dogs in my home or go to people’s homes. That didn’t go too well because I realized that I had to hurt the animals when they didn’t cooperate. that turned me off to the profession. I’m sure everyone’s experience is different. I’m glad I went through the training because I would never had known if dog grooming was right for me or not, now I know.
