Our pets are extensions of our family and we need all the same care, love and protection we give to the other members of our family.

Like humans, dogs require much exercise. This keeps them in their ideal weight and keeps them healthy and strong. Regularly walk your dog around the neighborhood. If possible to take them to different places they can enjoy a wide variety as well as exercise. Many places offer dog parks where dogs can run and play with other dogs. If you can not find one of these, then run and play with your dog yourself.

Finding an old ball or a Frisbee and let your dog run and chase. It can also teach your dog to fetch. Just bring some snacks with you and reward your pet with a gift each time you return the object. This can be fun for both. By taking your dog for a romp in the park, be sure to bring water for your dog to drink.

Another way to care for their pets is watching what they eat. Shop for them with the same care that you shop for yourself. Read labels and select the most nutritious. Many of the better quality brands are very expensive. If you are unsure what is the best food you can buy that fits your budget, ask your vet for recommendations. Make sure your dog has a plenty of fresh water to drink and a comfortable place to rest.

Puppies are cute and playful, but certainly not a group we want running around your house. Be responsible and take your pet to be spayed or neutered. Make sure they receive all their shots and take them for annual boosters. Heartworms are a health risk very serious for dogs, so make sure you give them the right medicine to prevent this condition.

Security is another important factor in the care of a pet. If they are left out, store them in a secure area so it will not run in the streets and in danger. Make sure your pet has an identification tag include your name and phone number. Putting both identifying information as possible on the label, such as your work number or number alternative contact. Choose bright tags so they can be read from a distance if necessary, especially if your pet is big and aggressive. People who are they may be afraid to approach, so providing a large bright tag, they may be able to get enough information to call you.

Other how to ensure the safe return of your pet is having a chip implanted under the skin. They are small and can be scanned to obtain the owner contact information. These Labels are often referred to as "Home Again" identification tags and are well worth having.
