iv been wondering at the pet store y do birds have those little tag things on there legs wut does it mean?

breeders put them on to identify the bird. it has a # on it that traces it back to the breeder, and you know how old the bird is and wheree it was born. it can help if you find a lost bird, to know where it came from, but it doesn’t tell you who owns it, only where it was born. can tell you the age.

mine had TX on it so i know my african grey was born in texas.

it’s a good idea to take those off because they can get caught on toys or cause cuts (and infections) that can break a leg or cause a leg to drop off. it is rare, but often enough that my vet took my bird’s band off the leg without even giving me a chance to say ‘no’. he says he saw too many accidents.
